Joycna is a Partner at Battista Migration Law Group and a dedicated advocate for the rights, dignity, and safety of migrants and refugees. Her practice spans the full spectrum of immigration and refugee law, with a particular focus on representing individuals in high-stakes matters before the Immigration and Refugee Board. Whether advancing complex refugee claims, appeals, or risk assessments, Joycna is known for combining meticulous legal strategy with a deep commitment to the human stories at the heart of every case.

She regularly appears before the Federal Court of Canada, where she challenges unjust decisions through judicial reviews, urgent motions to stay removals, and applications for writs of mandamus. Her advocacy has contributed to important jurisprudence, including Nathaniel v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2023 FC 799 and Balogh v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2022 FC 447. Across all areas of her work - from humanitarian and compassionate applications to sponsorships, LMIAs, and temporary residence matters - Joycna is driven by a singular goal: ensuring her clients are heard, protected, and treated with fairness under the law.

Joycna’s impact extends beyond the courtroom. Her advocacy has been recognized in Parliament, where she has provided testimony before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. She is also a trusted voice in public discourse, frequently called upon by national media to comment on immigration law. She has been quoted by CBC, The Globe and Mail, CTV News, and the Montreal Gazette, and has appeared on CBC’s The National, CTV News, and CBC Radio. Her written commentary has been published in University Affairs and The Globe and Mail, reflecting her commitment to shaping a more informed and just immigration system.

In addition to her practice, Joycna is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where she coaches the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship mooting team - mentoring the next generation of advocates. She also serves as a Director of the Canadian Immigration Lawyers’ Association and is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association.

Joycna holds a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University, where she was awarded the George Norman Leipnik Award in International Legal Studies, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Guelph. Since her call to the bar in 2020, she has built a practice grounded in principled advocacy, with a particular interest in gender-based claims. Before joining Battista Migration Law Group, she practiced at a boutique immigration and refugee firm in downtown Toronto.

She speaks conversational Punjabi.
